POULTRY INDUSTRY TITANS BO PILGRIM AND DON TYSON TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR LIFETIME CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE INDUSTRY BY THE POULTRY SCIENCE ASSOCATION (PSA)

Pair to Receive Honorary Lifetime PSA Memberships at PSA’s Annual Awards Banquet in July

SAVOY, IL (June 28, 2006) – The Poultry Science Association (PSA) will be recognizing Mr. Bo Pilgrim and Mr. Don Tyson as Honorary Members of the Association at the Awards Banquet scheduled during the Annual Meeting of the PSA, July 16-19, 2006, in Edmonton, Canada.

The PSA bestows Honorary Membership to individuals who have, over a period of many years, distinguished themselves through exceptional contributions to the advancement of poultry science or the poultry industry. Mr. Pilgrim, a native of Pine, Texas, currently serves as Chairman and major stock holder of Pilgrim’s Pride, a company he helped found and which today is the second largest poultry company in the U.S., with annual sales exceeding $ 5 billion. Mr. Tyson is the retired (1995) Senior Chairman of the Board of Tyson Foods, a company which under his leadership grew to become the 110th largest manufacturing company on 1994’s Fortune 500 listing, with annual revenues exceeding $5 billion. Mr. Tyson is a native of Arkansas.

"Through their vision, leadership and entrepreneurship skills, Mr. Pilgrim and Mr. Tyson have each earned national and international prominence in the poultry industry and are certainly deserving of this recognition," said PSA President S. F. "Sarge" Bilgili, Ph.D.

Honorary members of the PSA have all the rights and privileges of the Poultry Science Association, except that they can not hold office or vote. Previous honorees include Mac Cuddy and John Wallace.

PSA is a global scientific organization of more than 3,500 scientists and educators that serves the poultry industry (and related industries) by promoting the discovery and dissemination of knowledge generated by poultry research. Since 1908, the PSA has been a leader in the discovery and dissemination of basic and applied poultry information through the activities of its members, annual meeting and the publication of two international journals, Poultry Science and The Journal of Applied Poultry Research.
