About our speaker:

Dr. Todd Applegate is the Assistant Dean for International Programs and serves as Department Head and R. Harold and Patsy Harrison Chair in Poultry Science at the University of Georgia. A Fellow of the Poultry Science Association, Dr. Applegate is recognized for his leadership and impactful contributions to avian nutrition and gastrointestinal physiology.

His translational research program focuses on improving nutrient absorption and retention in poultry, with a major emphasis on reducing phosphorus, nitrogen, and ammonia excretion. His lab evaluates amino acid digestibility, ingredient selection, feed formulation, amino acid supplementation, and acidulant use. A complementary research area investigates how diet, pathogens, toxins, and stressors influence endogenous nutrient and energy losses—and the dietary strategies that can minimize them.
