The Poultry Science Association (PSA) successfully concluded its inaugural Pacific Rim Scientific Conference today, October 16, at The Londoner in Macau. The four-day event brought together more than 265 poultry scientists, educators, students, and industry leaders from across Asia, Oceania, and the Americas to explore the latest research and strengthen scientific networks in the region.
Organized under the leadership of Co-Chairs Dr. Tom Porter (University of Maryland) and Dr. Ning Yang (China Agricultural University), the conference featured:
- Seven thematic symposia addressing regionally relevant issues in poultry health, nutrition, genetics, production systems, and sustainability.
- A dynamic student research competition showcasing emerging voices in the field.
- Panel discussions designed to spark international collaboration and practical innovation.
“This conference exceeded our expectations,” said Dr. Porter. “It demonstrated not only the strength of science in the region, but the enthusiasm and readiness of this community to collaborate across borders.”
“We are proud to have created a space where science and culture intersect, and where students had a chance to shine,” added Dr. Yang. “This is just the beginning.”
Conference Highlights
- The WPSA Lecture, delivered by Dr. Ning Yang, explored poultry genetic diversity and its application to diverse markets across the Pacific Rim.
- Symposia covered emerging topics such as climate-resilient production, precision nutrition, and antimicrobial alternatives.
- A student oral and poster competition highlighted exceptional early-career research, with eight students being awarded Certificates of Excellence.
