Poultry Science Association Celebrates Impact Factor Growth Across Society-Owned Journals

The Poultry Science Association (PSA) is proud to announce that both of its long-held peer-reviewed scientific journals — Poultry Science and The Journal of Applied Poultry Research (JAPR) — have seen significant increases in their Journal Impact Factors (JIF) in the newly released 2024 Journal Citation Reports™ from Clarivate.

The Association’s flagship journal, Poultry Science, increased its Impact Factor from 3.8 to 4.2, while JAPR grew from 1.6 to 2.0, reinforcing PSA’s standing as a global leader in advancing poultry research and knowledge dissemination.

What is the Journal Impact Factor?

The Journal Impact Factor (JIF), published annually by Clarivate, serves as a crucial metric for evaluating the influence of academic journals. It quantifies the average number of citation articles published in a journal received over a two-year period. A rise in a journal's JIF signifies increased influence, enhanced visibility, and improved citation performance, all of which are strong indicators of a journal's scientific quality and relevance within its field.

“These increases speak volumes about the caliber of research published in our journals and the trust the global scientific community places in PSA,” said Andy Vance, Executive Director of the Poultry Science Association. “They are a testament to the exceptional leadership of Poultry Science Editor-in-Chief Dr. Mike Kogut, JAPR Editor-in-Chief Dr. Brian Fairchild, and our Managing Editor Mr. David Busboom. Their dedication to scientific integrity, editorial rigor, and timely dissemination of innovative research ensures that PSA-owned journals continue to serve as leading platforms for poultry research around the world.”

Published continuously since 1921, Poultry Science is one of the oldest and most cited journals in the field of animal agriculture. The Journal of Applied Poultry Research, launched in 1992, provides practical, translational science with immediate application to commercial poultry production systems.

“Our mission as an Association is to advance the discovery and dissemination of poultry science,” said Vance. “This year’s Impact Factor growth underscores that PSA journals remain essential resources for researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers seeking trusted, high-quality scientific information.”

Earlier this year, PSA acquired European Poultry Science, a journal with a nearly 90-year history of publishing groundbreaking work of poultry scientists in European and around the world. Under the leadership of Editor In Chief Dr. Barbara Tzschentke, PSA took the journal to an Open Access format upon its acquisition, and looks forward to seeing this highly-respected title flourish alongside PSA’s other society-owned journals.
