Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching (Ag Guide)

The fourth edition of the Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching (Ag Guide) (commonly referred to as the 'Ag Guide') is the standard reference document for those who are teaching and conducting research with agricultural animals.

The Ag Guide was prepared as a collaborative work product by species authorities from ADSA, ASAS and PSA, working in collaboration with the Animal Care Committee of the Federation of Animal Science Societies and most recently updated in 2020. As noted in the Preface to the Ag Guide, this document is intended for use by those who are teaching and/or conducting research pertaining to agricultural animals, and “should serve as a primary reference document for the needs and requirements of agricultural animals.”

Effective January 1, 2016, full and equal ownership of the Ag Guide copyright was transferred to the American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA), American Society of Animal Science® (ASAS) and the Poultry Science Association® (PSA).
