Broiler Academy

What: Introduction to commercial broiler management, covering all aspects of production with an emphasis on broiler farm management. The course will start with a historical perspective of the broiler industry, genetic development of the broiler and continue with topics that impact day to day broiler management and production. Each day will consist of practical classroom instruction by university and industry speakers, and hands on exercises.

Who: Anyone interested in learning more about commercial broiler production, new employees, or those with experience in one or two areas of production that want to learn more about the rest.

Topics to be covered:

  • Day 1: History of the Broiler Industry, genetic development of the broiler, breeder and pullet management, hatchery management, necropsy, hatch breakout
  • Day 2: Welfare, Common diseases, biosecurity, processing, nutrition and feed milling basics, broiler house design and equipment, principals of ventilation, brooding, litter management, lighting
  • Day 3: Farm tours and demonstration
