Q4 Webinar: Water homeostasis and scarcity: The forgotten nutrient

When:  Dec 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (CT)

Please note the date/time of this webinar is still TBD.

It is expected to take place around December 2024

Built on unusual years of record-breaking droughts and longer season temperatures, climate simulation predicts that global warming will only intensify and exponentially rise.

This will cause profound alterations in the hydrological cycle and raises a series of water and feed availability and quality problems not only for animal agriculture but also for human consumption.

Therefore, water efficiency and conservation of water usage should be considered in poultry and farm operations. Here, Dr. Dridi, will talk about sprinkler technology and poultry selection for water efficiency and their underlying molecular mechanisms.

About the Speaker

Sami Dridi
University of Arkansas

Sami, Professor of Avian Endocrinology and Molecular Genetics in the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, is one of the pioneer researchers who investigates the molecular mechanisms of heat stress responses and metabolic disorders in poultry for subsequent development of mechanism-based strategies to improve poultry production sustainability. He earned his M.S. (1998) and Ph.D. (2001) in Molecular Biology and Poultry Science from the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine (INPL) and The National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA), France. He received his Accreditation to Supervise Research (HDR, 2012) in Cell Signaling and Structural Biology from the University of Paris XI, France. He served as a quality inspector in poultry industry, and he joined several national and international labs such as UNC Chapel Hill, UK, WVU, KUL Belgium, ENITAB and ENVN France.

Based on the Web of Science, ResearchGate, and Google Scholar, Dr. Dridi authored more than 194 publications, 200 abstracts, 1 book, 10 book chapters, 10 invited presentations, 7 highlights and press releases, and co-edited the Sturkies Avian Physiology book edition 7 th . His work has been read 63,947 times and downloaded 26,625 (visited on 02/07/2023) times with an H-index of 29. He served as the President of WPSA-USA branch and on the Board of Directors for PSA. He will serve as the chair for the WPC scientific committee 2026 in Toronto. He serves as a reviewer for 74 journals and 3 Editorial boards. Dridi has taught classes in Biochemical Nutrition and Poultry Science Graduate Seminar.

Dr. Dridi plays an active role in mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students and molding the next generation of poultry scientists. His students have won the first place in Graduate Research Competitions and travel grants at PSA annual meetings, Carpenter Assay and travel to WPC (2022), the Poultry Federation Allied Industry Scholarship (2019), Inaugural Denton Memorial Endowed Scholarship (2018), Don R. Sloan undergraduate honorable mention for a superior undergraduate research presentation (2018), and Honors College Undergraduate Research Grants. His former students occupy faculty ranks in academia and scientists in the industry such as Adisseo, Cargill, Bell & Evans, and Elanco.
