CHAMPAIGN, IL – The Poultry Science Association (PSA) has selected Graham Spires of the University of Georgia (pictured to the left) as the 2024 recipient of the Diamond V Endowed Undergraduate Poultry Science Scholarship.

This scholarship, sponsored by Diamond V, is based on academic achievement and service. It also gives applicants the opportunity to express their interest and knowledge of the role the poultry industry plays in feeding the world’s growing population.

“Graham is a great example of the future of the poultry industry.  His passion around people and poultry are evident through his work as an undergraduate student.  The enthusiasm that Graham exemplifies for our industry excites me for the future and I look forward to seeing the accomplishments that he will have.  We wish Graham the best of luck as he continues his college career and look forward to working alongside him in the years to come,” said Judd Powell, Diamond V North America Poultry Specialist and PSA representative, “At Diamond V, we know how important it is for the future of the industry to have students, like Graham, choosing poultry as a career.  We are thankful to be able to provide funding for the future generation of poultry scientists.”

In his childhood, Graham purchased five barred rock chicks from a neighbor. This decision ignited his passion for poultry, influencing his educational and career decisions. He is a double major at the University of Georgia, studying avian biology and biological sciences. He plans to continue pursuing his love of poultry through higher education with the ambitions of becoming a poultry veterinarian.

“I am so grateful to the Poultry Science Association and Diamond V for having the honor of receiving the 2024 Diamond V Endowed Undergraduate Poultry Science Scholarship,” says Spires. “Members of the Association work tirelessly to promote, support, and serve the poultry industry, and one aspect of this service is student engagement. As a member of the PSA, I will use these funds to further my education and serve as an investment to the poultry industry!”

The Poultry Science Association extends its congratulations to Graham in being awarded this year’s scholarship. The Association’s scholarship cycle opens annually from October 1st to December 31st.
